The story
Dötzer Restauration at Sophienstr. 22 in Bayreuth is a Mediterranean kitchen with Franconian roots, and the Schlemmer Atlas awarded it 2 Kochlöffel in 2026.
The kitchen combines a Franconian roast tradition with Mediterranean specialties. Evening menus change with the season and include Wiener Schnitzel made from veal fillet and a tagliata with rocket salad. Franconian venison, char, pikeperch and sea fish appear as well, and the steaks come from regional and international producers. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are on the card too.
Truffle gnocchi are the house speciality. The Schlemmer Atlas description also names rack of lamb, dorade and truffle pasta among the dishes served. At lunch, Wednesday to Saturday, the three-course menu opens with a small mixed salad with olive oil croutons and balsamico vinaigrette, then a pasta of the week, then a sorbet, ice cream or espresso.
In summer, a terrace along the city wall and a small Tuscan herb garden are open. In colder months the interior rooms offer a more upscale, cosy setting. The wine bar sits in a vaulted cellar, where a fresh Pils or a glass of wine pairs with a full menu. Wine evenings, such as a South Tyrolean night and a Wine & Dine with wines from Jacques' Weindepot, run through the calendar. The adjoining lounge at the same address serves tapas, cocktails and a wide wine selection.
