The story
Restaurant Klostermühle in Ayl, at Mühlstr. 19, 67728 Münchweiler an der Alsenz, runs a modern regional kitchen that earned 2 Kochlöffel in the Schlemmer Atlas 2026.
The kitchen cooks with seasonal produce and regional ingredients. The Schlemmer Atlas singles out the trout "Müllerin" and a blood sausage tortellini, two dishes that show the house's rustic side. Saar wines from the family's own estate accompany the menu, so the glass on the table comes from the same valley as the plate.
The restaurant occupies a medieval monastery complex from the 12th century, set on the edge of the village among large gardens. Guests describe the garden terrace as a place to linger in warm weather, and the dining room is air-conditioned for hotter days.
