The story

Première édition in Avignon: Modern Bistro Cooking on Rue Prévôt

Première édition is a bistro with a modern cuisine bent at 5 rue Prévôt in Avignon, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026.

A former bookstore, rebuilt

Aurélie and Jonathan Thomassin took over L'Ami Voyage, a bookstore and restaurant that was also the first printing press for Actes Sud editions. The room now has a waxed concrete bar, Japanese-inspired lighting and skateboards hung on the walls. Le Fooding listed the address in 2026.

Small plates and local producers

The kitchen works in small plates: potato gnocchi with confit garlic cream, barbecued prawns from Grau-du-Roi, a breaded pullet raised by Elisabeth near L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Vegetables come from organic growers in the Alpilles. The wine list favors "living" bottles from growers who avoid chemical treatments.

Things are changing in the medieval city of Avignon! Aurélie and Jonathan Thomassin have converted a local institution (L’Ami Voyage, a former bookstore/restaurant that was also the first printing press for Actes Sud editions) into an intriguing restaurant : a waxed concrete bar, Japanese-inspired lighting, skateboards hung on the walls… Once night falls, make way for tantalizing small plates: light zucchini blossom beignets stuffed with brousse cheese and sumac, plus green gazpacho (Green Zebra tomatoes, melon, zucchini) with just the right amount of vinegar; lovely chicken thigh cooked in a press, with tender meat and crispy skin, drizzled in a tarragon, marigold and mandarin orange jus, with smashed potatoes; and a comforting s’more dessert made with homemade barbecued marshmallow in between two tuile cookies, all sprinkled with shaved dark chocolate and toasted buckwheat. // Raoul Taburin
