The story
Den Røde Cottage, at Strandvejen 550 in Klampenborg, Copenhagen, serves a neo-classical kitchen rooted in local produce and classical French technique. The White Guide awarded it Masters level in 2026, and the restaurant sits in Cottageparken between Klampenborg and Taarbæk, a short walk from the Øresund.
Simon Lerche leads the kitchen, having trained under Jan Friis Mikkelsen at Tinggården and worked at Kadeau. The cooking favors seasonal local ingredients, with subtle modern touches but no molecular experiments. Restaurant manager Morten Magh runs the floor and the wine pairings.
The White Guide's tasting meal opened with salted mackerel, cucumber and caviar, followed by butter-poached cod with crispy cauliflower and salted capelin roe. A virgin lobster tail under lardo arrived beside a potato soup poured at the table. The lunch card is simpler, with fried Camembert served with pickled blackcurrants, oysters, and herring with pickled mustard seeds and capers.
The ground-floor dining room is small, which keeps the atmosphere intimate. The first floor holds the private event room, seating up to 36 guests. The wine list pours by the glass, and a juice menu offers house-made non-alcoholic pairings for each course. On the last Friday of the month, the restaurant hosts a Friday bar with snacks, wine and drinks.
