The story
San Rocco, at Srednja ulica 2 in Brtonigla near Buje, Istria, serves contemporary cuisine built on Istrian produce. Gault&Millau awarded the restaurant 16.5 points in 2026, and the kitchen's truffle and seasonal menus have made it a reference point for the region.
Chef Floriana Ružić prepares original Istrian ingredients in a creative, skilful way. The menu changes with the seasons. Guests can order from the à la carte selection or choose a shorter or longer tasting menu, and the wine pairing is designed to accompany it.
A cannolo with cottage cheese and prosciutto, served with truffle and fish chips, opens the meal. The cappuccino of truffle, cuttlefish and mashed potatoes stood out for its rich mix of flavours and textures. Lamb cooked for 24 hours at a low temperature comes with homemade salsa, crispy leek and butter-fried porcini. Dessert pairs peach sorbet and hazelnut mousse with lime sorbet and vanilla ice cream.
The outdoor terrace sits among olive groves, and the hotel's grounds are quiet enough to linger over a long lunch. Inside, warm wood and wrought iron recall the estate's farmhouse origins. The wine list offers around 300 labels of Croatian and international wines, plus sparkling wines and champagne. In October, during white truffle season, the entire menu is devoted to truffle.
