The story
Don Alfonso 1890 is an Italian restaurant in Toronto at 1 Harbour Square, 38th Floor, and holds a Michelin star (2026). The room is the North American outpost of the Amalfi Coast house, with contemporary Italian cooking served above Lake Ontario.
The kitchen draws on Amalfi Coast flavours and Italian staples. Il Bisonte pairs organic Manitoba bison tenderloin with guanciale, buffalo mozzarella and Italian black truffle. The handmade tortelli are filled with Andria DOP burrata and served with Sicilian red prawn tartare and crisp zucchini chips. The risotto is Acquerello carnaroli cooked in beetroot juice, finished with 25-year balsamic and a Gorgonzola fondue.
The dining room looks out over the city skyline and the harbour. The wine list runs to 980 labels with a strong focus on Italian bottles, and the restaurant has won the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence (2019). Guests can choose the signature tasting menu or the à la carte, and the lounge serves its own menu.
