The story
Zur Post sits at Hauptstraße 39 in Saint-Vith, Belgium, where Eric Pankert's French kitchen has held a Michelin star as recently as 2026. The restaurant belongs to a family hotel on the border of the Eifel and the Ardennes, and the Pankert family now runs it in the third generation.
Eric Pankert, born in 1968, gathered experience in Düsseldorf, Ghent, Paris and New York before returning to his family's house. He worked at Restaurant Jamin in Paris under Joël Robuchon. The restaurant has kept its Michelin star without interruption since 1976, and Gault&Millau gave the kitchen 15.5 points in 2026. Guests often mention how well each course is balanced and how carefully it is plated.
The Midweek Dining menu is a four-course surprise with an aperitif, an amuse-bouche, four accompanying wines and petit fours, priced at 159 euros. Friday lunch is a three-course menu at 79 euros. Menus change monthly, and the midweek lunch requires an email reservation. The cellar holds around 500 wines, many from small family estates that the team visits in person.
Carina Pankert greets guests and furnished the hotel herself, giving it a warm and understated character. The hotel has eight individually decorated rooms. On sunny days, tables are set on the terrace. The building began as a coaching inn with stables in the mid-19th century, was destroyed in 1944, and reopened in 1950.
