The story
Terminus is a classic French restaurant at Callicannesweg 16 in Watou, in the municipality of Poperinge, and Michelin gave it a Bib Gourmand in 2026.
The restaurant stands at the Abele-Steenvoorde border crossing, next to a superette and a wine shop. The family story goes back to the 1930s, when a modest farm opened a small border shop. Pieter Verheyde, a former sommelier at Hof van Cleve, now owns the place. His approach is seasonal country cooking with first-class local meats, starting with the barbecue. Gault&Millau rated it 13 in 2026.
The kitchen leans on French bistro classics. Le Fooding singled out fried pork brains with lettuce and sauce gribiche, and pink pigeon breast with crispy sweetbreads, foie gras and fresh fries. Sole meunière arrives with coleslaw in a bright vinaigrette. A pot of frying butter comes alongside, and the meal ends with a rum baba.
