The story
Plat préféré, at Dorpsstraat 71 in Snaaskerke near Ostend, is a classic cuisine restaurant that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good-quality cooking at good value. The room is run by chef Laurent Gouwy, who serves bistro-style food for a broad table of guests.
The restaurant grew out of a family tradition of good food and long meals together. Gouwy draws on several years of experience cooked in Belgium and abroad, and he describes the kitchen as built on respect for the product and a fair price for the quality. Gault&Millau awarded it 13 points in 2026, noting that the dishes avoid complicated preparations and artistic plating in favour of bistro cooking that suits a wide audience.
The current seasonal menu has offered smoked salmon with brioche and cucumber, grilled asparagus with lacquered pork belly, stuffed skate wing with a southern-style purée, and lamb shoulder with dauphinois gratin. Desserts include a crispy lemon tart with meringue and kiwi, or a cheese board. Three courses with dessert cost €55, and four courses cost €69. The restaurant closes from 11 June to 9 August 2026 for the chef's medical treatment and rehabilitation, so it is worth checking before you visit.
