The story
Rascasse, a modern cuisine restaurant at Kalmthoutsesteenweg 121 in Kalmthout, earned 14.5 points from Gault&Millau for 2026. The kitchen leans toward seafood, though the menu also includes meat.
Erwin Denys has led the kitchen since 2008, working alongside hostess Caroline Claeys. The former Café Jagersrust became their restaurant, and Erwin brings experience from several Michelin-starred kitchens. The cooking is built on taste, product quality and simplicity.
He is a member of the Noordseachefs, a group committed to sustainable sourcing. He buys lesser-known fish species and by-catch from Belgian and Dutch fishermen. The restaurant takes its name from the scorpion fish.
The menu is deliberately short. Guests can order à la carte or choose a three-, four- or five-course discovery menu. Dishes follow the seasons and aim for pure, recognizable flavors.
Caroline guides the front of house with a warm, professional manner, and Gault&Millau named her hostess of the year. The restaurant has outdoor seating and a private room.
