The story
Hof Ter Hulst, at Kerkstraat 33 in Hulshout, is a classic French kitchen in Heist-op-den-Berg that earned one Michelin star in 2026. The restaurant also holds 15 points from Gault&Millau, which describes it as a long-standing fixture in a remote corner of the Campine for more than twenty years.
Johan Schroven runs the kitchen. He trained at Scholteshof under Roger Souvereyns, then worked at Alain Ducasse's Louis XV in Monaco. Next came Michel Guérard in Eugénie-les-Bains and Philippe Rochat in Crissier, near Lausanne. He spent two years with his mentors before settling at the farmhouse.
The tasting menu, served from 22 May to 19 June 2026 at €115, opens with sea bass ceviche and avocado and continues with sole and squid over lettuce and pea cream. Beef entrecote arrives with gratinated asparagus, and dessert is raspberry with yoghurt, pistachio and lemon verbena. The seasonal menu at €75 includes cod with a southern béarnaise and strawberries with rhubarb and white chocolate. A cheese course can be added before dessert.
The dining room sits in an old converted farmhouse with a light, classic interior. Service is warm and professional, and there is a cosy garden terrace. A lunch menu at €65 is available Wednesday to Friday at midday.
