The story
La Grange d'Hamois is a modern French restaurant at Chaussée d'Andenne 10a in Emptinne, near Ciney, where chef Grégory Gillain cooks seasonal food in a renovated barn. The Michelin Guide awarded it one star in 2026, and Gault&Millau scores it 14 out of 20.
Grégory Gillain has cooked in brigades across Wallonia and Brussels, including the kitchens of Comme chez soi, L'Air du Temps and L'Eau Vive, three restaurants that each held two Michelin stars. He runs the kitchen with his wife, Hélène Fays, who looks after guests in the dining room. The cooking is built on local produce and what is in season.
A menu on the restaurant's site lists a tuna tartare with crustacean mousse and tarragon vinaigrette, and a skreï fillet with cauliflower, watercress butter and cockles. Pork loin arrives with carrot textures, a Robuchon purée and a curry crumble. Desserts on the same menu include roasted pineapple with coconut sponge and a chocolate dome with a soft caramel centre. The menu is served only to whole tables.
The couple first opened in Hamois in 2015, in the former station, before moving the kitchen to the barn a few kilometres away. The building is more than 150 years old, and they designed each room to feel welcoming. The space mixes old and contemporary elements, and a shaded terrace suits warm days. Air conditioning, parking and Wi-Fi are available.
