The story
Contre-Façon sits at Place de Virelles 18 in Virelles, near Chimay, Belgium. Chef Loïc Pierard leads the kitchen, and Gault&Millau gave the restaurant 14 points for 2026. The modern French menu rests on local produce and changes with the seasons.
Each à la carte dish comes in two versions, the classic or the "contre-façon," an inventive imitation of the original. The restaurant opened in April 2022 and cooks with local, seasonal ingredients. Gault&Millau describes the food as regional and constantly evolving, balancing tradition with creativity.
Starters include tortellini filled with lobster, served in a consommé with small vegetables. Mains range from linguine with langoustines in a basil bisque to stuffed sole with beurre meunière and samphire. A four-course menu is served to the whole table, and the lunch service runs on set days in the summer.
