The story
L'Inattendu is a fine dining restaurant at Rue de Bouchain 6 in Ath, Belgium. Gault&Millau awarded it 14 points in 2026, and the kitchen is run by chef Benjamin Fontaine.
The Gault&Millau review describes an inspired, daring cooking style with unexpected creative accents. Dishes it names include scallop gravlax with sour herb cream and avruga caviar, and veal sweetbreads with salsify. Benjamin trained at the IPES in Ath, graduating in 2010, and later competed in culinary contests, where he was named Belgium's best young rôtisseur chef.
The restaurant is housed in a renovated building that the review calls elegant and tasteful. Amélie leads the service, having moved from social work into restaurants, and the house is presented as the project of the two of them. The dining room also hosts private rooms and private parties. Smart Green Guide gave the restaurant 3 Radishes in 2026.
