The story
Smudged, at Sint-Paulusplaats 20 in Antwerp, serves British cooking that Gault&Millau scored 12.5 in 2026. The kitchen works in plain view of the room, and the menu leans on shareable plates.
Arno De Neft and Arthur Oidtmann run the stoves, and both have serious kitchen résumés behind them. Their English pub fare comes in small plates: a pair of warm oysters with beurre blanc, caviar and chives, and a spicy txistorra sausage roll with paprika ketchup. Le Fooding also singled out the scotch egg, made with rice in place of meat and shaped like arancino, and a shepherd's pie with carrots and peas.
The room occupies the former Amadeus rib joint on the square. Most seats are counter spots and high tables around the open kitchen, with a few low tables for groups of four to six. A vinyl bar, strong speakers and a kitchen barbecue station give the place its character, and Saturday DJ sets keep the evening loud. Walk-ins can usually take the bar and window seats.
