The story
Ciro's, at Amerikalei 6 in Antwerp, is a Belgian brasserie that earned a 2026 Michelin Bib Gourmand for good-quality, good-value cooking. Albert De Herdt, a former Red Devil, opened it in 1962, and its traditional brasserie menu has barely changed since.
Steak Ciro's has been on the card since 1960, and the website insists it is worth ordering at least once. The rest of the list follows the same tradition, with tomato soup and meatballs, house-made garnaalkroketten, and steak tartare. Fish appears as fried or poached cod, and veal sweetbreads run through several dishes.
Gault&Millau scored Ciro's 13.5 for 2026, calling it an institution that appeals to young and old alike. The praise points to its unpretentious style and respect for tradition. Gene Haesaerts took over in 2010, and in 2022 he handed the restaurant to chef Claude Sondag and hostess Sabine Huyssen. When the weather allows, a covered terrace extends the dining room.
