The story
Bar(t)-à-vin is a Antwerp bistro at Lange Slachterijstraat 3, where the kitchen cooks classic French brasserie food. Gault&Millau gave it 13 points in 2026. The restaurant occupies a former pig slaughterhouse in the Slachthuiswijk district, and its art deco tiling dates from the 1920s.
The menu is deliberately small and built around fresh produce. The chefs add new suggestions as the ingredients arrive. The house steak tartare is the signature, and many guests describe it as the best they have ever eaten. Crispy toast with freshly sliced pata negra, celeriac and mustard seeds shows how the kitchen balances nostalgia with bright, simple flavours.
Copper saucepans and cast-iron dishes sit against the original tiles, and the room seats only about twenty guests. The wine selection rotates across roughly 300 bottles, mostly from Europe, with an emphasis on finesse and balance. There is no printed wine list, so the team guides guests toward a bottle. Reservations are not required but are strongly advised.
