The story
Mizūmi, in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, is a Japanese restaurant at Hütten 2 in Leogang, Austria, rated 12.5 by Gault&Millau in 2026. The menu follows Japanese cuisine with an Asian contemporary touch, built around sushi, grilled dishes, fried plates and ramen.
The nigiri selection is where the kitchen shows its range. Tamago, unagi and rarer cuts such as toro and uni all appear on the list. Inari, the lightly sweet tofu pockets, is also served, which is unusual to find in Austria. Sonja Pfeffer is listed as chef.
The sushi chefs work in an open show kitchen, so guests can watch the preparation up close. The name means water, a nod to the lake that surrounds the restaurant. Groups of 40 or more can book the whole space for private dining, known as Koshitsu.
The drinks list leans on sake, poured in ochoko, the small ceramic cups used in Japan. Bento boxes are available to take home. Orders go in by phone or online and are collected at the Forsthofgut reception.
