The story

Floh in Langenlebarn-Oberaigen: Creative Regional Cuisine Guide

Floh is a creative regional cuisine kitchen at Tullnerstrasse 1 in Langenlebarn-Oberaigen, Austria. Gault&Millau gave it 16.5 points in 2026.

Chef and cooking style

Josef Floh leads the kitchen, and Patrizia Knell runs the dining room as maître d'. The guide credits the team with answering a hard question, whether a regional kitchen can carry humor, with a clear yes. The menu plays with its own names, but the cooking stays grounded and precise. The Smart Green Guide also awarded Floh 2 Radishes in 2026.

Standout dishes

Fried blood sausage arrives under the name "Cotton Eye Joe," with Chilimanscharo chili paste and fresh sheep cheese. A potato dumpling filled with cracklings and chili is served with sauerkraut and Red Amposta onions. Grilled trout comes with eggplant cream and cucumber flavored with verbena. The menu also lists a hazelnut nougat slice with cherry ragout.

History

On the record

Gault&Millau — 16.5

Whether the simple Eurodance-country novelty "Cotton Eye Joe" was, as claimed on the menu, a "pop classic of the 90s," remains open to debate. The dish of the same name – fried blood sausage slices with "Chilimanscharo" (a similarly cleverly named homemade chili paste made with peppers and tomatoes) and fresh sheep cheese – is indeed a culinary hit. Served under the name "No Lard Crumb Dumpling" is a delicious potato dumpling filled with cracklings and chili, accompanied by sauerkraut and Red Amposta onions, while the perfectly grilled trout with eggplant cream and verbena cucumber surprisingly goes simply by the name "Mountain Trout." The fine hazelnut nougat slice with cherry ragout is listed under "Others call it Mannerschnitte." The question of whether great regional and creative cuisine can handle humor is answered by Josef Floh once again this year with "Relaxed!"
