The story
Hope & Anchor is a British pub at Sluice Road, South Ferriby, DN18 6JQ, listed in Kingston upon Hull, and it holds a Michelin Recommended mention for 2026. The kitchen works in modern British style, with meat, fish and foraged produce from nearby suppliers shaping the menu.
Slawomir Mikolajczyk, known as Slawek, is the chef patron. He trained in Poland, worked in Lincoln kitchens, and joined Winteringham Fields as a commis chef in 2008 before taking on The Hope and Anchor in 2015. The kitchen runs a "Whole Animal Project," butchering whole cow, pig, Winteringham lamb and venison in-house. Pickles, chutneys and brioche buns are also made on site.
Steaks come from Gray's Butchers in Winterton and are dry-aged in a maturing cabinet before going over an imported Josper charcoal oven. Fish is bought from Grimsby fish market, and vegetables are sourced as locally as the season allows. Foraged ingredients include sorrel and wild garlic from Broughton Woods, samphire and sea purslane from Robin Hood's Bay, and elderberries and wild cherries from Winteringham. The AA has awarded the pub 2 Rosettes for 2026.
The room is casual and informal, and the bar is dog-friendly, with the same menu and table service as the main dining room. Some evening sittings take place in the Humber View Room. Terrace tables are first come, first served and depend on the weather. Regular features on the menu include a Thursday steak night, a Friday Fork & Fin offer at £14, and a Sunday roast.
