The story
Covino is a small wine-led Modern European restaurant at 118 Northgate Street in Chester, listed as Recommended by the Michelin Guide in 2026.
A single chef cooks seasonal small plates rooted largely in French cuisine, with a menu that sits between Mediterranean and Modern European. The Good Food Guide (Very Good, 2026) points to cavatelli with Marina di Chioggia squash and sage, and to guinea fowl with borlotti beans and root vegetables. Beetroot and tofu with gochujang and sesame shares the list with a salad of bitter leaves, Bleu d'Auvergne and orange.
The cellar holds over 130 wines, from iconic classics to the more leftfield. The room is compact, so expect to tuck your elbows in. One reader quoted in the guide calls the service "always charming, always funny". Dessert might be muscovado pudding with figs soaked in Pedro Ximénez.
