The story
Auberge de la Croix d'Or, at Grand-Rue 18 in Yverdon-les-Bains, runs a seasonal brasserie kitchen with a bistro and a more elaborate restaurant under one roof. Gault&Millau rated it 15 in 2026.
Claudia Hiernard greets guests with a choice, Chasselas or Champagne, which makes sense because her husband Olivier comes from the Champagne region. Together they run this village inn among the Vaud vineyards. Michelin also awarded a Bib Gourmand in 2026, for good quality, good value cooking.
The restaurant card is short and French-inspired. The Gault&Millau review singled out an open raviolo with sot-l'y-laisse, morels and a vin jaune foam. It also praised a convincing imitation of paella made with wild prawns, red mullet, chicken wings and fregola sarda. Briefly cooked scampi arrived with grilled asparagus and a cedrat emulsion, and a well-stocked cheese trolley followed.
The bistro keeps a daily seasonal menu. At weekday lunch it costs 27 CHF for three courses or 24 CHF for two. The à la carte list includes Vallorbe snails, Swiss beef tartare cut by knife and roasted wild fish with citrus. The kitchen follows the Fait Maison label, so dishes are made on site from raw ingredients. Spring brings morels and kid from Gimel, and autumn turns to game and mushrooms.
