The story
Principe Leopoldo sits at via Montalbano 5 in Lugano, where the Italian kitchen earned 16 points from Gault&Millau in 2026. Chef Cristian Moreschi leads the cooking, and the risotto is the dish guests ask for first.
Moreschi joined the Villa in 2011 after more than twenty years in Italy and St. Moritz, and he became Executive Chef in 2019. He describes his approach as tradition and innovation combined, built on local products and regional aromas. Lake Lugano olive oil finishes his spring risotto, which he cooks from scratch every time.
The spring risotto with wild garlic and morels is cooked all'onda and served in a portion large enough to share. A second risotto pairs raw red prawns with a mildly spicy Thai curry. Pasta options include a raviolo with an almost liquid yolk and wild chicory, and cappellacci with yolk and black truffle. The cubettata of raw veal comes with crispy milk spheres and lemon mayonnaise, and the cod "Glacier 51" is served with red prawns and a stuffed squid.
Antonino Forte serves as maître d' and sommelier, and he trains the young service team. Dessert is prepared in front of guests: crespelle alla lampada, crêpes Suzette flambéed from the cart. Michelin lists the restaurant as Recommended for 2026. Tables are set with linen, silver and crystal.
