The story

Die Seekiste Westerland: North German Restaurant on Sylt, Schlemmer Atlas 2026

Die Seekiste, at Käpt'n-Christiansen-Str. 9 in Westerland on Sylt, is a North German restaurant that earned 2 Kochlöffel in the Schlemmer Atlas 2026. The kitchen has been part of the island's dining life since 1971 and works mainly with North Sea fish and Frisian home cooking.

Fish from the North Sea

The Schlemmer Atlas singles out turbot, herring and mussels, often served with a glass of Burgundy. On the menu you will find Scholle Finkenwerder Art, plaice fried in butter with bacon crumbs and served with Morsumer potatoes. Matjes fillet comes with buttered Frisian bread, red onion and salad, and the Sylter mussels arrive in a curry cream broth.

Frisian comfort and duck on Tuesdays

The room is small and cozy, with Frisian tiles and a maritime feel that has stayed the same for decades. Every Tuesday at 18:00 the kitchen serves oven-fresh duck with red cabbage, homemade dumplings and duck jus, and a reservation is required. Dessert leans traditional too, with Sylter red fruit pudding served with vanilla sauce or ice cream.
