The story
Zum Ochsen in Stuttgart is a Swabian kitchen at Kirchstraße 15, Kernen im Remstal, and the Michelin Guide lists it as Recommended for 2026. The house has welcomed guests since 1648, when it operated as a coaching inn for the lords of Stetten.
Chef Tobias Bär leads the kitchen team. The menu follows the seasons and is refreshed every few weeks, while the house classics stay on the card. The team works with old Swabian recipes and new compositions side by side, cooking seasonal and regional produce with deliberate exceptions.
Maultaschen are served the classic way, with onion melt and potato salad. Other mains include Rinderbraten with salsify, Kalbsleber in red wine sauce, and Maronengnocchi with red beet sauce. The chorizo comes from the in-house butchery, and desserts include blood orange parfait and a caramel crème with banana and coffee.
The concept draws on the Baroque cabinets of curiosities. The Schlemmer Atlas describes it as fine dining, bar, culture and traditional butchery under one roof, and awards it 2.5 Kochlöffel for 2026. From 19:30, guests can order wine or cocktails mixed at the table, and private rooms are available for celebrations and business events.
