The story
Jennerwein is a Bavarian restaurant at Münchner Straße 127 in Gmund am Tegernsee, listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026. The family-run house sits at the entrance to the Tegernsee valley and cooks regional dishes with a focus on local ingredients.
Georg "Schorsch" Weber took over the Gasthaus in August 2010 after training at Hotel Bareiss in Baiersbronn and working in kitchens in Munich and Lech am Arlberg. His menu moves between hearty country classics and seasonal creations that reflect Upper Bavaria. The Schlemmer Atlas awards it two Kochlöffel for 2026, citing a fresh cuisine that is partly inspired by Southern Europe.
Old wall paneling, creaking wooden floorboards and tables scrubbed pale set the tone in the stube. The tiled stove dates from 1890 and anchors the room. The atmosphere is unhurried, and guests tend to stay for the evening.
Under old trees, the gravel path leads past a splashing fountain. The garden serves traditional Bavarian classics, seasonal specials and summer dishes, with draft beer and a wine list alongside. Vegetarian alternatives are available on the menu.
