The story
Alte Kanzlei, at Niedenau 50, 60325 Frankfurt am Main, is an Italian restaurant that earned 2 Kochlöffel in the Schlemmer Atlas 2026. The kitchen draws on Calabrian traditions and Mediterranean produce, served in a protected historic building in the West End.
Homemade pasta anchors the menu, from tagliolini with shaved black truffle to paccheri with spicy Calabrian salsiccia and buffalo mozzarella. Seafood runs through the starters and mains, and octopus arrives in the Calabrian style over aubergine with nduja cream. The chef also works with game, poultry and mushrooms. The lunch menu changes daily.
The dining room seats around 70 guests at 16 tables, finished in warm brown wood and cream wall tones. In good weather, service moves to the terrace. The Schlemmer Atlas 2026 gave the restaurant 1.5 Kochlöffel for its relaxed, traditional dining in the 16th-century "Old Chancellery", a setting often enjoyed outdoors with views of the lively scene on Schiller Square.
