The story
Izakaya by Koki is a Japanese restaurant in Basement 2 of Capella Hanoi, 11 Le Phung Hieu Street, and it was Michelin Recommended in 2026. The same address holds Hibana by Koki, the house's one-star chef's table.
The Izakaya menu follows spring, summer, autumn and winter, with a stated focus on sustainability and minimal waste. Head Chef Yamaguchi Hiroshi leads Koki's kitchens and draws on fresh ingredients from Japan. He cooks by umami, kansha (respect for ingredients) and omotenashi (the art of Japanese hospitality).
The main dining room seats 20, and a sushi counter adds five more places for counter dining. Two private dining rooms hold 6 to 12 guests each. The izakaya sits beside a secluded teppanyaki setting, which the hotel suggests for celebrations.
Akio, the sake lounge and bar, seats 48 and makes cocktails distilled from rice. Its sake library gathers bottles from well-known breweries across a range of styles. Izumi by Koki, the house sake, is brewed specially for Akio guests.
