The story
Minibar by José Andrés holds two Michelin stars (2026) for its contemporary Spanish cooking at 855 E St. N.W. in Washington, DC. The Michelin guide describes the cooking as excellent.
The restaurant describes its approach as avant-garde, with each bite meant to push past what diners expect from food. Art and science sit alongside tradition and technique. The result is a progressive tasting menu, the kind of Spanish-rooted, contemporary kitchen where the format matters as much as any single plate.
Minibar is built around communal, counter-style dining rather than a conventional dining room. Table service, a bar and wine pairings round out the setup. The wine list drew a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2014.
Barmini is José Andrés' cocktail lab, a separate space with a menu of more than 100 libations, experiential flights and inventive snacks. Chefs and bartenders work together there, and classic cocktails share the list with modern creations. It makes a natural pairing with a night at the counter.
