The story
L'Ardente is an Italian restaurant at 200 Massachusetts Ave. N.W. in Washington, recognized with a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026 for good quality, good value cooking. It comes from the team behind Unconventional Diner.
Chandeliers hang below wooden farm beams, and smoke drifts from a gold-plated pizza oven. The restaurant describes its look as glam yet rustic. Separate spaces include a dining room, a lounge and the Galleria, and there is counter dining at the bar and outdoor seating.
The Italian kitchen starts small with cicchetti such as polpette, wagyu beef and pork meatballs with whipped ricotta and mortadella breadcrumbs. Duck Hunt is a duck ravioli finished with parmigiano and black truffle. The margherita comes with fresh mozzarella, basil and Sicilian oregano. Larger plates include whole grilled branzino with fennel, tomato and salmoriglio, and a 32 oz dry-aged bistecca alla Fiorentina with rosemary potatoes.
The wine list earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2024. At the bar, the espresso martini sits alongside brunch cocktails like the Caprese Bloody Mary and a sorbetto spritz with melon basil sorbet and champagne. Tiramisu flambé closes the meal for those who want a little theater with dessert.
