The story
The Plumed Horse, at 14555 Big Basin Way in Saratoga, California, serves contemporary California cuisine and holds a Michelin star (2026). The dining room sits in the heart of downtown Saratoga, with a fireplace lounge, a garden, and a kitchen that has anchored the restaurant since its 2008 renovation.
Peter Armellino started cooking at 17 on Long Island, then worked in New York City at Gramercy Tavern before moving west to the Bay Area. The restaurant's 2008 transformation created a modern stage for his menu. He cooks seasonal, sustainably produced food in a California style that changes with the market.
The Chef's Table overlooks the kitchen, separated from the team only by a pane of glass. Guests can pair the Michelin-starred luxury menu with the reserve wine pairing, or choose the four-course menu. The cellar earned Wine Spectator's Grand Award in 2015 and lists Napa and Sonoma reds alongside Burgundy and Rhône bottles.
