The story
Angler, at 132 The Embarcadero in San Francisco, is a seafood-focused American kitchen that earned one Michelin star in 2026. Its menu is built around live fire, and the restaurant sits on the waterfront with views of the San Francisco Bay.
Joe Hou leads the kitchen as Chef de Cuisine, with Dante Fauci as executive sous chef. Nearly every dish is touched by fire in some way, and the plates are meant to be shared. The bar menu shows the range: Pacific oysters with seaweed vinegar and embered tomato, and crispy smelts with yuzu kosho.
Steel beams run above native flowers arranged around the hearth. The Game Room, an extension of the main dining room, holds up to 50 guests for private events and has rich textiles and a private taxidermy collection. The wine cellar leans toward Burgundy and benchmark producers from Napa and Sonoma, and Wine Spectator gave the list its Best of Award of Excellence in 2019. Cook For You, a multi-course menu at $185 per person, changes daily and always includes the uni toast. It must be booked in advance for parties of 8 to 11 and cannot be modified for dietary restrictions.
