The story
Solare is an Italian restaurant at 2820 Roosevelt Road in Liberty Station, Point Loma, San Diego, and it earned a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026. The family team of Randy, Brian, and Tommy Smerik runs the room, with a menu that draws on Tuscan and southern Italian traditions.
Fresh pasta is made every morning. The kitchen works with locally sourced ingredients, organic produce, wild fish, and hormone-free meat. Chef Accursio Lotà, who was born in Menfi, Sicily, is named in the restaurant's event notices and teaches its Sicilian cooking classes.
The highlighted menu lists spaghetti all'aragosta, pork ossobuco, Wagyu carpaccio, and beef medaglioni. Solare has two outdoor patios, heated patio dining, and lawn seating. Inside, a Wine Room and a Chef's Table host special dinners, and a private room serves events. The big white lights on the columns mark the corner of Roosevelt Road and Historic Decatur.
The bar pours wine, beer, and craft cocktails, and the wine list earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2017. The restaurant hosts winemaker dinners and wine-led events, often with Italian producers.
