The story
Sushi Noz, at 181 E. 78th St. in New York City, is a Japanese omakase restaurant that earned two Michelin stars in 2026 for excellent cooking. The kitchen works in the Edomae style, a Tokyo tradition, and the menu follows what is fresh that season.
Chef Nozomu Abe grew up in Hokkaido, where his grandfather owned a seafood company. He trained as an apprentice in Sapporo, then spent years in Tokyo before moving to New York in 2007. After three years at Sushiden, he opened his own restaurant here.
The tasting menu opens with five or six otsumami, small plates of seasonal fish and vegetables. Twelve to fourteen courses of nigiri follow, then miso soup, tamago and dessert. Guests sit at the eight-seat Hinoki Counter, built around a 200-year-old hinoki sushi bar, or at the six-seat Ash Room counter, made from Tamo Ash.
