The story
Le Bernardin, at 155 West 51st Street in New York City, is a French seafood restaurant that holds three Michelin stars (2026). Its seafood-focused kitchen has earned it a place among the city's most decorated dining rooms.
Eric Ripert has led the kitchen since Gilbert Le Coze's death in 1994, after Maguy and Gilbert had recruited him as chef in 1991. The house approach is simple: the fish is the star of the plate, and the kitchen works with fresh product rather than heavy saucing. The menu is divided into raw and cooked fish courses.
The Chef's Tasting Menu is $350 per person, or $530 with wine pairing. Recent courses have included bluefin tuna tartare with Osetra caviar and seaweed emulsion, sautéed langoustine with butternut squash, and steamed turbot with citrus beurre blanc. The meal ends with a warm Peruvian chocolate tart served with Tahitian vanilla ice cream.
Forbes Travel Guide gives the restaurant Five-Star status (2026), describing contemporary but understated décor that keeps attention on the seafood. Upstairs, the private dining room Les Salons Bernardin has windows overlooking 51st Street. Aldo Sohm Wine Bar sits steps away, serving simple shareable plates alongside a constantly changing wine list.
