The story
Benoit, at 60 W. 55th St. in New York City, is a French bistro created by Alain Ducasse, who reopened the room in August 2016 with a lighter palette and a new wine bar. The restaurant holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026.
Executive chef Lucile Plaza leads the kitchen. She joined Benoit in 2014, ran the culinary program at Le Coq Rico, and returned to the Ducasse group in 2020. The menu draws on classic French repertoire, including onion soup, pâté en croûte and baba au rhum, and it changes with the seasons.
Signature red velvet banquettes remain from the original room. The wine bar runs livelier than the dining room, with a list of more than 900 references that leans on French producers and East Coast bottles. Some wines pour by the glass through a Coravin system. Wine Spectator gave the restaurant its Best of Award of Excellence in 2009.
