The story

A.R. Valentien La Jolla: Californian Dining at The Lodge at Torrey Pines

A.R. Valentien is a Californian restaurant at 11480 North Torrey Pines Road in La Jolla, San Diego, and it holds a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026. The signature restaurant of The Lodge at Torrey Pines serves regional San Diego cooking in a timbered dining room.

Cooking with the seasons

Executive Chef Jeff Jackson leads the kitchen, and the menu changes often with the produce and provisions available locally. The team cooks from what the season brings in, keeping the Californian kitchen simple and ingredient-led. Dinner runs nightly, with breakfast, lunch and weekend brunch on the same calendar.

A Craftsman dining room

The room draws on California Craftsman design, with a metal-strap post-and-beam structure, handcrafted wood-framed windows and stained-glass lanterns. A frieze of painted pine boughs runs above the space, and Mission-style furnishings fill several small rooms and intimate plush booths. Large windows and an outdoor terrace look over the 18th hole of Torrey Pines Golf Course. The restaurant is named for an early 20th-century California artist, and his works are exhibited throughout.

Wine and the lounge

Wine Spectator gave A.R. Valentien an Award of Excellence in 2016. The A.R. Valentien Lounge keeps its own hours, and live music plays Wednesday through Friday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
