The story
Macchialina is a rustic Italian restaurant at 820 Alton Road in Miami Beach, Florida, where chef Michael Pirolo has cooked since opening in June 2012. The restaurant received a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026, and its menu centers on pasta made in-house.
Every pasta is rolled by hand in the kitchen. The Cavatelli Macchialina arrives with baby meatballs, porchetta and pecorino, while the Tagliolini ai Funghi pairs abalone mushrooms with parmigiano. Pirolo trained in Torino and in Michelin-starred kitchens across Italy before bringing his Italian cooking to Miami. A four-course chef's tasting menu is also available, with an optional wine pairing.
Jacqueline Pirolo, the owner and sommelier, runs the beverage program, which earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2019. The wine list includes a Cannonau from Sardegna. The bar's Midnight in Sicily combines Woodford double oak, a cacao-infused martini, and rossi ambrato with amaro and black walnut bitters.
Guests can dine indoors or at outdoor tables. Fluke, the martini and crudo bar tucked inside the restaurant, works well before dinner, after hours, or on its own. Pastas also travel for pickup and delivery.
