The story
La Mer is a French restaurant at 2199 Kalia Road in Honolulu, inside the Halekulani hotel, and it holds a AAA Five Diamond rating for 2026.
Executive Chef Alexandre Trancher trained in France and worked in Michelin-starred restaurants in Greece, Paris and Japan. He has cooked in Hawaii since 2012. His menu follows flavors from the south of France, built on local and tropical ingredients such as Kauai shrimp, Kunoa Beef from Oahu and goat dairy from the Big Island.
The open-air dining room faces the Pacific, and Forbes Travel Guide, which gave La Mer Five Stars in 2026, suggests arriving before sunset. Salon La Mer, a private room facing the water, seats up to 16. Salon du Vin sits beside the wine collection and holds up to 24.
