Servers wear clean uniforms, conversation stays low, and the window treatments are classic. Many tables look directly onto the Duke University Golf Course. At breakfast and lunch, floor-to-ceiling windows bring in plenty of daylight. Dinner is slower, with a pianist playing nightly.

Saturday jazz brunch and afternoon tea

Live jazz accompanies brunch every Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the recently renovated dining room. Fairview has a more refined feel — servers’ uniforms are clean, conversations are muted and window adornments are classic — but it’s not to be taken too seriously. If the consistent smiles on the faces of the waitstaff aren’t indication enough, the fact that many tables look directly onto the Duke University Golf Course certainly shows its lighter side.At breakfast and lunch, the energy is quite bright — which actually might have as much to do with the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the greens than anything else.At dinnertime, the mood is still easy, only it has a little more rhythm to it thanks to the nightly piano tunes.
