The story
Monarch, at 1401 Elm St. in Dallas, Texas, is a wood-fired modern Italian restaurant on the 49th floor that earned a Michelin Recommended mention in 2026. The menu centers on handmade pastas, steaks and fresh seafood, cooked with a focus on light, fresh flavors and careful technique.
The wood-fired hearth is the centre of the kitchen. Tiger prawns are charred there alongside wood-fired meatballs and charred Spanish octopus. For the whole table, the kitchen sends out large-format dishes, including a whole live Alaskan King Crab and a 50 oz porterhouse charred over coals with lemon, arugula, olive oil and sea salt.
The windows look out over the Downtown Dallas skyline. Window booths are reserved with a $125 per person food and beverage minimum. The lounge menu includes cocktails like the Monarch Old Fashioned and the Espresso Martini, and the Tableside Tiramisu is a dessert worth saving room for. Wine Spectator honored the wine list with a Best of Award of Excellence in 2022. Golden Hour runs Sunday through Friday, 5:00 to 6:30 pm, in the bar and lounge only.
