The story
Harrimans Grill serves American cooking at 500 North Pendleton Street in Broadlands, Virginia, and earned a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star rating in 2026. The restaurant is part of the Salamander resort, and its kitchen draws on Virginia Piedmont farms, local butchers and its own culinary garden.
The menu follows the seasons, with local butcher's cuts, fresh seafood and a dessert list that changes with the produce. Chef Lisseth Soriano and pastry chef Mollie Turner are credited on the menus. Starters run from wagyu beef tartare with capers and pickled shallots to a French onion consommé with parmesan custard. Among the mains are golden tilefish a la plancha with pine nut gremolata and roasted squab with baby artichokes. Many garnishes come from the garden just outside, where guests can stroll before dinner.
On Sundays the dining room fills for a family-style, multi-course brunch. Forbes describes made-to-order omelets, a seafood tower and, often, a live jazz ensemble. The exhibition kitchen also hosts weekend cooking shows, where guests have made everything from tomato pie to pastries.
Wine Spectator gave Harrimans its Best of Award of Excellence in 2025. The wine cellar holds local and international bottles and doubles as a space for private parties, and on Sundays the resort pours tastings from nearby vineyards. The decor nods to horse country, with rich leathers and a muted palette. After dinner there is a fire pit for a cordial, and groups can book the Cooking Studio or the Upperville Private Dining Room.
