The story
Launderette, a contemporary Mediterranean restaurant at 2115 Holly St. in Austin, Texas, earned a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. The kitchen cooks over a wood grill and draws on global flavors for a menu that changes its focus between lunch, dinner and weekend brunch.
Chef-owner Rene Ortiz leads a menu that moves from small Snacky Bits to plates from the wood grill. Charred octopus arrives with Castelvetrano olive, avocado and fennel. The flat iron steak uses Texas wagyu with eggplant raita and kachumber salad, and the whole branzino is finished with preserved lemon and sliced almond.
Guests can book a seat at the bar, a table in the dining room or a spot on the covered outdoor patio. Pecan cavatelli comes with kabocha soubise, charred broccolini and pepita gremolata, while Texas redfish is served with Old Bay beurre blanc and trout roe. The cocktail list includes the Lost Bird, made with mezcal, Italicus and blanc vermouth, along with several non-alcoholic options.
