The story
The Bow Room at Grays Court serves Modern British food at Chapter House Street in York, inside a boutique hotel close to York Minster. The restaurant holds 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026 and is included in the 2026 Michelin Guide.
Ian Doyle is head chef. Before arriving in York, he worked at The Cliff House in Ireland, at the Michelin-starred Oaxen Krog in Stockholm, and at Noma in Copenhagen. The kitchen sources produce from local suppliers and grows fruit, vegetables and herbs in its own kitchen gardens. The restaurant offers a Tasting Menu alongside an à la carte menu, served Wednesday to Saturday.
The building was the official residence of the Treasurers of York Minster from 1091 to 1547. The name comes from the Gray family, who lived here from 1788 to 1945. The Bow Room sits within this house, so the dining room carries the building's long past into the evening.
