The story
Mingary Castle, at Kilchoan, PH36 4LH on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, serves modern British cooking from a restored 13th century castle outside Tobermory. The restaurant is listed as Michelin Recommended for 2026 and holds three AA Rosettes.
Chef patron Colin Nicholson cooks a daily changing menu, either eight courses or five. Fruit, vegetables and herbs come from a local community garden he visits regularly. Fish is bought from Tobermory Fish Co and Iain Stewart's in Fort William, and cured meats come from Great Glen Charcuterie. Foraged ingredients appear across the menu, and the dishes are built around simple preparations that let the produce carry the flavour.
The dining room seats around 20 covers, and the restaurant is open for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday during the season. A complementary wine pairing with old and new world bottles is available alongside the tasting menu. The castle itself was restored after its drawbridge stayed closed for 150 years, so the room sits among 13th century stone and oak panelling.
