The story
Haar, at 1 Golf Place in St Andrews, is a modern cuisine restaurant built around seafood from the East Neuk and produce from across the British Isles. The 2026 AA Rosettes award recognised its culinary excellence with four rosettes, and the Michelin Guide recommended it the same year.
Owner and chef Dean Banks began cooking at 15 and has since travelled to more than 40 countries. Those trips shape the menu, which blends cooking styles and global flavour profiles. Dishes change with what the local market offers, so the kitchen seldom repeats itself.
The tasting menu is priced at £125 per person and runs at both lunch and dinner. The à la carte returns to the original Haar dishes, built on East Neuk seafood, Scottish produce and foraged herbs, and is served all day. Guests can order a single course or settle in for a full table.
Six boutique rooms sit 50 metres from the Old Course. The terrace menu offers Cumbrae oysters, a Scottish cheese selection and chef's snacks, served with chilled champagne, local beer and cider. For private events, the restaurant seats up to 40 guests.
