The story
The Vineyard, a luxury hotel at Stockcross, Newbury, RG20 8JU, serves modern British cooking in The Tasting Room and holds three AA Rosettes for 2026. The hotel sits in Berkshire countryside near the All Angels Vineyard, about an hour from London.
Executive Chef Tom Scade works from classical French technique and applies modern methods, letting seasonal British produce set the direction of each plate. He trained under John Williams MBE at The Ritz, London, where he helped maintain the standard expected of a Michelin-starred kitchen. In 2018 he won the UK finals of the Le Taittinger Prix Culinaire and placed third in the world finals later that year.
The Tasting Room sits at the heart of the hotel and presents seasonal menus built on British ingredients. Each course is matched with wines from the Old and New World. A one-night tasting package includes a five-course menu, served only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The website says the hotel is closed until an autumn 2026 relaunch, so check dates before planning a visit.
The cellar holds more than fifteen thousand bottles, and the restaurant draws on it for pairings. The wine lists are described as award-winning and change often. Guests who want to bring a bottle of their own can ask the team about the corkage policy before arriving.
