The story
Chadwicks Inn Maltby serves modern British food at High Lane, Maltby, TS8 0BG, near Middlesbrough, and is a Michelin Recommended address for 2026. The village sits on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors.
The building dates to the 19th century and began as the Half Moon Inn. After the Second World War, RAF Mosquito pilot John Liddle took it over and renamed it The Pathfinders. His portrait and commendations are still on display, close to the stone fireplace and the beams.
Steven Lawford is both an owner and the head chef. The kitchen works with locally sourced produce, and the steaks are British beef dry aged for at least 21 days. The AA awarded the pub two Rosettes in 2026 for culinary excellence.
Small plates include dressed Whitby crab with Isle of Wight tomatoes and a Bloody Mary dressing, and scorched Cornish mackerel with Jersey Royal potato salad. Lindisfarne oysters arrive on ice with a cucumber and lemon pickle. Among the large plates are pan-roasted halibut with king prawn ravioli and rump of British lamb with braised shoulder. For dessert, the sample menu lists caramelised vanilla rice pudding with Yorkshire forced rhubarb. The team will suggest a wine to go with each dish.
