The story
Stones Restaurant sits at 1c Dale Road in Matlock, where the modern British kitchen has earned 2 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence in 2026. The restaurant overlooks the River Derwent and serves lunch and dinner across the week.
Head Chef Kevin Stone leads the kitchen, with his wife Jade and sister Katie Temple running the restaurant. The ingredients change with the seasons and draw on local produce. Lunch offers a three course menu and a five course tasting menu, and dinner offers three courses or an eight course tasting, with an optional wine flight. Vegetarian and vegan versions of each are available, and the restaurant also holds a Michelin Recommended listing for 2026.
The Conservatory has five tables and looks out over the river. Diners can request it when they book, though availability isn't guaranteed. The main room is softly lit, with cosy corners that suit a quiet evening. In warm weather, the riverside terrace is a place to sit with a glass of wine from the extensive list, and it can also be booked for outdoor dining.
