The story
Pentonbridge Inn in Longtown is a modern British restaurant at Penton, CA6 5QB, and it holds a Michelin star (2026) alongside three AA Rosettes (2026). The inn sits on the English-Scottish border, in the area once known as the Debatable Lands.
Chef Chris Archer leads the kitchen, and the modern British menu leans on ingredients from the county. He has said he finds the Cumbrian larder a joy, especially its meat and dairy. The walled garden at Netherby Hall, three miles down the road, supplies fresh produce throughout the year.
The tasting menu runs to eight courses and is served in the evening. A wine package opens with an afternoon tasting led by sommelier Robert Patla, with canapés from the kitchen, and guests can rest in one of the inn's bedrooms in between. Packages start at £675 for two on set dates, and dietary requirements and allergies cannot be accommodated for that event.
